Yzerfontein / SAOTA

Customers: a couple from New York to build a vacation home in the southern hemisphere for the summer. Aware of trends in contemporary architecture, called for a sculptural building with clean horizontal lines, large screens and glazed areas create a space that is “open but private.” His assignment was a 2 bedroom apartment with living space interior / exterior and a study to be used in their professions related to photography and film.

The land is one of the most precious, located immediately behind the endless line of dunes. The climate on the west coast can be idyllic, sometimes extremely hard.

To maximize views of the sea and the waves on the dunes, the living areas ground level were elevated above the natural ground level. The concept of L-shaped two intersecting rectangular shapes, allows both sides glazed eyes and face while creating a courtyard protected by a rectangular pool. The sculptural forms rectangular, linear, large horizontal areas glazed sliding screens and feature fireplace are the main elements of design.
