Offices Urban Outfitters known retail brand in the city of Philadelphia, were designed by the architectural firm Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle, Ltd. The proposed design consisted of a rehabilitation of a historic shipyard that operated between 1880 and 1939, but since that time been abandoned and in permanent decline.
This shipyard facilities were concentrated in 26.000 m2 and large structures were designed in the repair work and construction of warships. To carry out this renovation architects took advantage of the old structure, such as solid industrial structures, large open spaces and large inflows of natural light. Finally, after 23 months of work and a budget of $ 100 million, the result were offices and workshops and connected open spaces that housed all the departments in separate buildings, but united by different courts.
Indoors is very interesting from the perspective of materials and recycling. Remained in view much of the ancient structures, and the renovation added raw materials to continue the industrial look of the facility. Open space without walls separators, made the final appearance a building very similar to the concept of “original loft, which was to bring life and a contemporary industrial space.
