In this project, the main question was how to integrate contemporary functionality with pre stocks of a small town in Istria, Croatia. How to incorporate something modern in an existing site a much more rural, trying to keep balance with the environment.

The commission included two houses with a common swimming pool and some functional details. The design emphasized the material, finally using stone as the main material, recalling the old roads of Istria. Also guided by the typical shape of a house, in its most primitive structural form, with a clear and well defined boundary (wall, opening cover.)

This resulted in a house that is the simple outlines of the neighboring houses (rectangular plan, gabled roof) which defines the circulation paths through the grass. When this path change of material, wood stone means a shift to a more private sector: the courtyard located in the more open side where the pool is available.

The dialogue between old and new is established by the entire community together and the image of the neighboring houses, which are arranged various facilities and programs within the same property.
