Athanasia Psarakia shared with us this house for a skater in Athens, with a very innovative interior for this sport. Pictures and project description below. The house ramp is a project that aims to redefine the living space based on customer request: a “habitat weathering.” The result was an inside curve, which provides the functionality of the home based on the lifestyle of its inhabitants, in the movement.
In space, which was actually an extension of a third floor, we tried first of all achieve a balanced coexistence between old and new. The main material was wood, so he joined a pergola and horizontal blinds of this material, involving the new structure. Through this new harmony with the total volume, but maintains its independence from the rest of the building.
“When the client asked me to design a house where they could skate, immediately eliminated the idea of putting a mini ramp in the living room. For me, the challenge of this project was to design a space where the ramp outside the main building components. I wanted to do a house ramp and not a house with a ramp“.
“Then I began to imagine a place where straight lines would be curved and flat surfaces are transformed into a ramp or bowl. Playing with these forms and transitions variables that offer, my main goal was to create a functional open space where daily life adopt a feeling of acceleration, which is basically one of the main features of the skate. ”
“Considering this, I designed a house where the living room is a ramp that becomes a bowl to create a border with the room and bathroom. Typical elements of a house as the fireplace and the wineries are hidden within the forms of the ramp. I also tried to incorporate the aesthetics of the street through the concrete, but combined with the cozy atmosphere of a home through the wood. So the pavement in the wood floor becomes the ceiling and kitchen area. In this way, the whole space appears in the actual movement and can flow from one space to another, skating or walking. “
