Designers and ecologists John and Cynthia Hardy, looking at their projects encourage communities to live sustainably. His effort is to show people how to build with materials from your region, through a process developed for ecology and sustainability. Thus established The Green School and its affiliates: Meranggi Foundation, in charge of bamboo plantations, and PT Bambu, a design and construction that promotes the use of this plant as a primary building material in an effort to seeks to avoid depletion of the remote rainforests.
The project The Green School is a great laboratory built by PT Bambu and is located in the valley of the Ayung River in Sibang Kaja, Bali, Indonesia. Is inserted into a “sustainable campus”, also formed a forest of native plants and trees that grow alongside organic gardens.
The campus operates through different energy sources, such as a water-powered generator and solar panels. The built-in programs include classrooms, gymnasium, meeting rooms, rooms for faculty housing, offices, cafeterias and restrooms.
Thus, the local bamboo grown through sustainable methods, is used in an innovative and experimental, showing its various architectural possibilities. The result is an interactive community green, with a strong educational program that tries to motivate their students to be more committed to the environment and the planet.
