The Cor Building by Chad Oppenheim

The COR Building, designed by Chad Oppenheim of Oppenheim Architecture and Design is the first sustainable condominium in Miami, Florida, and is an example of a dynamic synergy between architecture, structural engineering and ecology. Building, about 122 meters high, which rises in the Design District, have been used the most advanced types of wind turbines, photovoltaic systems and solar hot water production incorporated into its architecture.

Oppenheim chose to alternate the aluminum coating to parts of solar cells by providing the doors to open doppivetri low emissivity and reflective fixed. It has also given life to a game in front of circular holes, sometimes individual, sometimes together, in which they were placed – at the top of the building, the pool area – large wind turbines. The result was, therefore, a hyper-efficient exoskeleton and multifunctional: in addition to building the structure of the building, provides thermal mass for insulation and shading for cooling and is both a natural ‘fence’ for the terraces, armor for wind turbines and porch at ground level.

COR consists of commercial spaces, offices, fitness, leisure and residential premises (113 apartments and duplexes) and the termination of the work is expected to be implemented by 2011.
