“Condominio P” is a residential building located in Cagliari designed by the architects Pier Francesco Cherchi and Mario Cubeddu (C + C04STUDIO) with engineer Francis Atzeri.

The building is located in an area affected by profound changes in urban planning and architecture, not all positive. While the building fabric of the neighborhood, characterized by small low buildings developed in the 30s and 50s, has been transformed in the 90 operations that have produced new replacement buildings of modest architectural quality, projects future changes seem to reverse a negative trend once ugly and anonymous. A short walk from the site, to the south, the recent demolition of a disused cement has released an area in which it is being implemented a new residential and new structures for the tertiary sector.

The intervention of the new “condominium P” is just beginning to find a synthesis between architectural rigor and desire for detachment from anonymity and the grayness of the urban edge semi peripheral. The project research is the uniqueness of the building as a whole and the possibility of re-reading of the uniqueness of individual typological and formal housing, fostering a collective understanding of the building as a sum of “cells” identifiable individual. The building is generated by “container-house”, superimposed, differentiated and visible.

The use of color becomes an instrument “anti-dullness” and a means to identify different container-house, recognizable even by the introduction of large numbers engraved on the coating of colored melamine laminate. The available choice of “container-house” between the plan and the plan is non-repetitive. For this reason there is no “plan type and each apartment is unique.
Raised in this concept is reported through the use of color and by integrating the empty-terrace, “Volumetric subtraction” separating the container-house, building relationships between inner space and outer space.

The building, which houses six apartments and three duplex medium distributed on four levels, was conceived and built architectural and technical solutions which have allowed energy certification – the only case in Sardinia – class “A”.
