LTL Designers was selected to create the main in-house dining venue for Aria, the CityCenter’s 61-story primary casino and condo tower. The look works out a deal between your desire to have visual openness – sights to serving areas and adjacent pool deck – and the necessity to produce a feeling of closeness inside an expansive floor plate. The requirement of a competent plan with minimal obstructions moved the main focus from the design towards the ceiling, where a number of undulating cloud-like the canopy migrate over the space, shifting in section to define the dining areas below. Integrating lighting and acoustical dampening, the the canopy permit spatial articulation from the otherwise open plan, creating a number of semi-enclosed rooms without impeding view and movement throughout. Banquette seating echoes the pedal rotation from the ceiling to help define these zones while fields of glass cylinders extend mix grain towards the the canopy. As opposed to the institutional excellence of the typical Las vegas buffet, the look produces an inside landscape that provides contrasting regions of repose and movement.
