For this hotel temporary IAA Architects created a refuge where the occupants may become a form of entertainment for passersby. Designed in collaboration with artists and Aneta Grzeszykowska Jan Smaga, the hotel is part of a temporary facility and was intended as a piece of art. With five bedrooms screened a series of gardens and shared facilities, the hotel provides a cheap place for shelter and creates a simple beauty in the context of Grenswerk Festival of Arts.
The lightness of the structure allows the movement of guests to be observed from the outside. “Guests are part of the show” the architects explain. “If a guest turn on the lights at night to read, everyone can see. People who are asleep during breakfast and can share their experiences. Who knows, they may start a lifelong friendship. ”
Simple materials sober create a structure that does not obstruct the field, but also allows the view not only of the people inside, but also the occupants have great views of the surrounding landscape. As part of the Museum exhibition in Enschede, this project, called “Night at the Museum Avenue” works for those who use the interior space as well as the pedestrians passing by outside.
