The restaurant located on the top floor of a commercial building in Hangzhou, with a height of 9 m and a great view to the south of the city. Bamboo composite boards selected as the main material, bringing the design to a combination of tradition and modernity. In the hall, to take advantage of height, some private rooms suspended from the sky, creating an interactive atmosphere between the upper and lower levels, enriching the viewing experience.
The original building had a large central column and several semi-oval blocks essentially disorganized space. Therefore, the design remodeling the space with a large curved roof made with woven bamboo slats that extend from the walls to the sky. The wavy sky creates a dramatic visual expression in the hall, keeping the original height and creating an interactive relationship between the levels. Also involves the central column with bamboo panels transmit light to transform the concrete block in a bright and lively subject.
The lobby also maintains underwent bamboo. The wall covered with this material, transforming it into a wavy surface. Thus, the surface keeps the image of the sky while performing a guide function for customers. The design of the private rooms has different characteristics. The rooms on the first level are relatively large and maintain the characteristics of the bamboo network expands and adorns the walls. Thus, the different angles of folding and fabric patterns make each room than the other. The lower rooms are smaller and have a special wavy pattern for the roof and bamboo walls simple.
The key design concept of space is that the rooms connected by suspended bridges and walkways to the side aisles. The semi-transparent walls provide a subtle relationship between the interior and exterior, welcoming people with a different spatial experience. With this design, we tried to create interior spaces, yet interrelated diversified through various uses of the same material, bamboo, responding to a local culture in search of intriguing spatial effects.
