The site is located in the heart of Old Town district of Sant Andreu. The urban fabric of the plot area is characterized by small, very narrow and long.
This house is probably one of the closest solar around the neighborhood, as it makes only 3.7 m wide. The plot is very long and gives the two streets.
The dimensions of the plot (3.7 m wide x 25m long), its location (between party) and its orientation (NS) conditioned the development of this housing.
Our proposed architecture attempts to take these shortcomings and try to turn them into virtues. The little front that we had and the depth of the site became the treatment of light as the most important premise of the project.
These features led to a pre-existing vertical housing development, putting in different plants needs forced the program.
Therefore, the program is distributed as follows:
At ground floor garage and a cinema. Then, in the mezzanine are two rooms connected by a living-study which involves the patio garden. The first floor on one side of the courtyard are the dining-room and on the other, the kitchen along with a gallery which can be converted on the terrace during the summer. The second floor is the bedroom, and finally the deck is where we find the pool terrace.
The distribution of the different rooms are built with large open spaces and communicated among themselves in a very transparent. Ensuring a visual side by including the double spaces generated by the court and allowing the house to be very flexible, reconfigurable and great capacity for change.
We wanted to create a home that enjoys the outside to escape the stress of the city.
The house had the need to open fully to the outside while ensuring the maximum inner bully.
The two facades have large openings, but are resolved differently. The south facade, the openings are resolved through adjustable horizontal slats to ensure on the one hand and on the other solar control the degree of privacy.
The north-facing facade is solved with a wall of glass blocks of large dimensions that let in light but blur vision.
Therefore, the house gets opened to the outside in front but only with the intention of collecting light, hiding inside and trying to escape direct contact with urban space and noise.
Thus the courtyard becomes the protagonist of the house. Is the link with the outside the house more direct, more immediate.
The patio allows us to contact far from the noise and pollution of living in an urban environment. Quad Des relate all the rooms and allows us to see: on the sky from any point of the home, garden and even the ground floor terrace with floor pool deck.
If we understand the facade as an element that links us inside to the outside, the courtyard becomes the project’s main facade.
These ideas of the house is very well explained in section and are also reflected in the treatment of materials. These play an important role.
Materials such as wood, stone, warm paint colors, wallpaper, low ceilings make the rooms dimensional spaces, comfortable, warm, despite what the house is open.
As we approach the patio, the house is stripping material, the roofs are staggering until you can view the structure and work with much lighter materials such as glass, steel, iron, white paint to achieve maximum clarity, lightness and brightness.
The study of materials has taken into consideration from the very first sketch of the house. Not only as a last resort to give a nice wrapper to the idea. We understand that during the design process is essential to understand how they interact with different materials and parts to the whole subject. It has sought to architecture and interior design were fully united.
The second project’s main facade becomes the cover. This becomes an area that gets disconnected from the city. Projecting a more proper to a house with land. A wooden deck terrace pool with the idea of ??turning it into a place where you relax, and enjoy the outdoors. A shelter in the city.
