Cities in Denmark are characterized by silos that tower over the countryside, mostly in disuse. One of these cities, call Løgten, north of Aarhus, has decided to transform one into a mixed-use building. The Danish Office C.F. Møller, Took charge of the renovation project transforming the silo in the heart of the structure, providing it the vertical circulation and a framework around which contains the departments.
Siloette is a project that transforms the stock and infrastructure in a practical way. The abandoned silo remains in its original form and serves as the heart of service to the departments and the basis for a roof terrace. A steel structure forms the framework for the 21 departments around the silo, varying types to get different views, natural light and privacy. The apartments have private patios and each has an assured view of the Bay Århus.
The base of the building is a new center for people with a public plaza and a shopping area that includes a supermarket. The inhabitants of the tower and the surrounding areas can buy without moving much, and public space encourages community activity.
The tower becomes unique because no other building can be built at the same height, being a re conversion. So residents have unique views of the city of Løgten, and live in a unique place not be repeated, at least for now.
