The new Museum of Bristol, M-Shed, is located on the promenade along the city’s commercial center and new cultural and leisure facilities. This museum complete regeneration of the city’s historic waterfront.

Funded by Bristol City Council and a grant from the Heritage Fund, the museum Shed M takes care of the dock site in Prince’s Wharf, which was the former headquarters of the Bristol Industrial Museum before it closed in 2006 . Located in a freight yard with steel renovated, two-story industrial building was finished in 1951. An important consideration is to be respected industrial heritage of the existing building and the site without compromising the operation of a museum modern.

The main areas of exposure using dramatic warehouse spaces, the integration of environmental services required and the lighting in a comprehensive way. A second floor was added, which provides a space for events and a temporary gallery. One aspect Central to the project was the creation of two large halls spaces: the lobby west and the main lobby. These two distinctly different spaces spaces act as orientation for visitors and for breaking spaces. They provide views Bristol impressive, taking full advantage of the unique location of the museum.

Compared with similar projects in size and aspiration, the budget for this project was very tight from the beginning, even without the storage requirements. The project achieved a good balance between quality and cost, and here’s hoping that the building is a significant contribution to the city.
