Renewal of an attic – Clavel Arquitectos

We called for the renewal of an existing penthouse in the city, which was affected by the strict regulations that impede change the alignment of the walls of the facade.

The main client requirement was to design a space where he could showcase his personal collection of paintings. On the other hand, we wanted to represent the feeling of a suburban home and bring it to the city.

As an evolution of previous design, with corridors and rooms on both sides, suggested a system of bubbles living, meeting and breaking the walls. While the space in between runs as a service and flow, each bubble has different uses, such as dining, living room, master bedroom and children’s bedroom.

Proposed a small amount of material, making sure they were the most durable available. For this, the bubble walls were lined with white glass, opaque. Contradictory to the creation of an art exhibition, this construction solution seems appropriate when integrated three lines of mounting rails for pictures.

The soil surrounding the bubbles was paved with gray stone longitudinal pieces, while the interiors are finished in different hardwood floors. In the circulation spaces, these materials are supplemented by a continuous sky perforated gypsum to counteract the acoustic behavior of the glass.

Finally, special attention was paid to lighting, solving three different levels of use: daily use lighting with recessed lights and LED lines around the perimeter, lighting for the art show foci of gimbal, and finally the signal lighting for outdoor LED lines under the walls of glass, which gives the sensation of bubbles floating in the night.
