In response to concerns about climate change and rising sea levels, the Russian office Remistudio has designed a concept hotel with the ability to withstand extreme floods. The building as Ark, has a structure that allows it to float independently on the surface of water. The Ark is also designed to be a bioclimatic space with independent artificial breathing systems. The project was designed in conjunction with International Union of Architects in his “Architecture for Disaster Relief (Architecture for disaster relief) and can be constructed for regions with different climates and seismically dangerous because the underground is a shell structure, without angles.

The System loads the arches allowing the redistribution of weight in case of an earthquake. The intelligent design of the building allows an optimal relationship between its volume and its outer surface, providing further energy efficiency. Its prefabricated frame also allows for rapid construction. The Ark is a power system itself and its shape is convenient to install solar panels at an optimum angle to the sun. The dome, on top, collect the hot air that builds up seasonally to provide an uninterrupted power supply for the entire complex. The heat from the environment – air, water or land – is also used for this purpose.

Inside the Ark incorporates a large amount of vegetation that is cultivated through the light captured through the roof, like a greenhouse. The staggered balconies serve as social and recreational areas, and open layout enables the building to be adapted to different functions depending on the application that is necessary and can be installed in the ground without a hitch.

The structural integrity of the Ark is provided by the compression of wooden arches and steel tension cables. The frame is covered by a special metal sheet ethyltetrafluoroethylene, Or ETFE. Sheet metal is a strong and transparent to automatically clean, recyclable and sustainable, economically efficient and lighter than glass. They also serve as solar collectors to heat water and channels to collect rainwater from the roof.
