Moxon Architects has received permission for the project dell’Olivera’s Place in Preston (United Kingdom), a new commercial structure with its parking lot. The authorization was granted for a four-store building (4236 square meters of total domestic) and a multistorey car park. The draft Moxon, strong architectural impact, improve the character and qualities of the area which will arise.

The main features of the building consists of a set of anodized aluminum fins that protrude from the cantilever support brackets positioned vertical on all four sides of the building and all oriented in the same direction. On the south-west act as a giant screen as the braise Sollie and rain, but seem more visually permeable facade on the south-east.

While in the early hours of the morning and in winter sunlight can penetrate the building, this does not happen in the summer to avoid damaging the internal environmental conditions. The aluminum fins look like a bush that gives the building a unique appearance that changes dramatically depending on the position of the viewer.

The project is the result of an international competition sponsored by Gardini Ltd and the RIBA and won by Moxon, has received praise by the Architectural Review, the British Council of Offices and the MIPIM Future Projects Awards 2009, as “an exceptional piece of architecture.”
Architect Ian Simpson, president of the jury, said that the draft Moxon is an “exceptional project that offers simple space, with an intriguing and extraordinary quality of light.”

Ben Addy, director of Moxon Architects, said: “Preston is a city you are ambitious and this contest is presented as an opportunity to work on what will be the only landmark in the area. The intelligibility of the project allowed for a true dialogue constructively with the authorities. It was very well received by the local community that has accepted with great emphasis. “
