PKU University Of Law by Kokaistudios

An ambitious project for China’s most famous university in the heart of its historic campus. In 2009 a prestigious American Foundation and the University of Beijing Kokaistudios invited to design the building of the new law school located in a prestigious location within the historic campus of this major university in China. This particular site of the pagoda symbol of the university’s standing, so it takes a considerable effort in terms of design, in order to find architectural solutions that can meet and merge in a harmonious way with the elements of heritage, natural environment and contemporary building.

This major project, completed in October 2010, is considered the milestone of a new era for the University of Beijing, and a symbol for a better and more sustainable (in terms of environment) standard of living for the future of the Community of University and its buildings.

This project has been conceived as a rigid volumetric shape imposed by the strict regulation to protect the historic site and at the same time the need to meet all functional requirements of the new faculty.

The rigorous style asked to be accepted by the large number of heritage commissions that have been creatively interpreted by Kokaistudios proposing a smart use of limited materials, concrete and local stone with a capacity to transmit light of day and smart use of natural lighting, dimming with gardens to increase the use of natural light and the thermal efficiency of the building.

Kokaistudios convertirslas transformed the facades to filter-media light and soft daylight throughout the interior. All interior space system designed by our team to improve standards of working, living and study of future teachers and students, use of sustainable materials and establishment of aggregation and spaces that could meet the demands of flexibility of the power in the future.
