There is a legend that says that the region of the colonial city of Paraty and Angra dos Reis (between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro) has 365 islands, one for each day of the year. Two boxes of concrete, connected lie on the side of a mountain of one of these islands, two prisms between the colossal modern rock of the Brazilian coast. The volumes are projected out of the mountain, near the beachfront, with a coin of 8 meters. The house, a structural ingenuity, he finds his balance in the topography of the land, constituting a large door and living space virtually untouched nature.
In the rocks of Paraty, in the dense rainforests of the island, poisonous spiders, they find this volume orthogonal and penetrate the vegetation that “harbor” the slabs. Moving front and rear limbs, they claim their land. The spiders continue their way into the house and get into a major furniture collection of twentieth century design, among others, by George Nakashima, Luis Barragan, Lina Bo Bardi, Sergio Rodrigues, Joaquim Tenreiro and Jose Zanine Caldas.
The people arrive by boat: the entrance to the house, protected by the slab, after rising through the sand through a metal bridge located on a reflecting pool surrounded by a glass railing. The bridge leads to a staircase that connects to the lower volume. This volume contains part of the house: the living room, kitchen and service area. The internal continuous area has a span of 27 meters and huge windows that allow views of the sea.
