Perched on a rocky slope between pines with a waterway at its feet, Casa Barone is an ultra-modern hillside house designed by Sweden architects WRB. In sharp contrast to its more traditional neighbors, this contemporary Swedish house plan features a flat roof and a minimalist black exterior framing its massive windows. The main part of the house is concealed underground within the steep hillside, where large horizontal platform creates a nice living and entertaining area. Half of this space is occupied by an upper living level, while the other half is open to the outdoors and connects to the kitchen. This Summer House is design by Dom Arquitectura. It located in Menorca, Spain and build in 443 m2 area. Inspired by the typical Menorca “tanca”, stone walls divisions of the realm. The plot is organized from a space frame, fully passable, based on a trace orthogonal, combining floors, platforms, water, trees, plants, tanca, pergolas, walls and the house itself. Bluff House by Bruns Architecture
Bluff House is design by Bruns Architecture. This home is located in Baraboo, Wisconsin. The building’s envelope is composed of super insulated polyurethane SIP wall and roof panels and high performing low-e coated argon filled glazing. The 1,490 sf of finished main level is heated with a hydronic radiant heat system that uses the mass of the lower level slab to maintain a comfortable environment. The heat stored in the slab naturally radiates up through slots, directing warm air past the main level glazing and is returned through the open stair, completing the convection cycle. Caverhill Residence is design by SPF Architects. It located in Los Angeles, CA, USA and build in 418 sqm area. The home replaced a smaller house on the difficult hillside lot, maximizing both the narrow footprint and the spectacular views of the Los Angeles basin. A hillside building ordinance and a desire to keep the previous structure’s footprint made the project a challenge – the lot is more of a wedge shape than a parallelogram. Stockholm-based architecture firm WRB designed this cool ranch style cabin of timber, glass and steel. Located in Trosa, one of Sweden’s coveted upper-crust residential neighborhoods, this private villa features a contemporary H-shaped structure built surrounding an interior courtyard, which is accessible from every room via expansive sliding glass walls. The sheltered courtyard – which constitutes 1/3 of the home’s total living area – makes a great spot to kick back and take in the view of the ocean, which grounds the home and connects its residents to the outdoors. This farmhouse-style structure is constructed using concrete, rusted steel, untreated pine wood, oiled wenge and water, adding to the rustic ambience.
