This house in Gifu, Japan Office Katsutoshi Sasaki & Associates was designed to fit the context and the weather looking to deliver a comfortable and friendly atmosphere. The house was commissioned by a family with four daughters and their distribution is intended to permit open communication between all members of the house.

Ogaki House takes its shape from the ground conditions and the demands of its users, and the triangular shape of the house is facing west to absorb the wind in the winter. In this way the architects were able to create a buffer against cold winds, removing loads from the roof of the building.

The design has limited potential openings, opening them only to the east and west facing patios. This ensures cross ventilation in summer, allowing the structure to download the accumulated heat. Most public programs such as the living room and terraces are oriented within the triangle around a double-height courtyard, emphasizing interpersonal relationships within the home and nature beyond its walls.

The architects decided to emphasize the ease of communication among members of the house. Provided for the kitchen near the entrance, where family members and visitors can be found in the transfer between private life and out into the street, several times a day. On the other hand, the rooms of the four daughters are extended on the second floor roof facing a common open space.

The sloped roof also provides an opportunity to generate private and intimate moments of family members between the fine wood finishes and structure. The windows provide natural light that filters through these spaces, but can also be controlled by the family as needed.
