“Two big white concrete shells deposited on the beach like cuttlefish bones.” This is the image of the future “City Cinema”Of Rome. The project, developed by architects Mark Gigliotti, Luke Braguglia, Vincenzo Federica, Vincenzo Tattoli and Martin FraschettiWas presented in recent days at La Nino Manfredi di Ostia. To launch the initiative is Francesco Carducci, director of Cinecitta and owner of the Auditorium Conciliation, together with Francesco Gesualdi, president of the Foundation for Audiovisual Rossellini task of finding available public entities to finance the project.
Objective is the realization of a complex with three theaters, respectively, by 1200, 600 and 300 seats, as well as an Imax room for 400 people, two conference rooms, a place of memory for the collection of video documentation on the cinema , a library, and even offices, retail space for libraries and merchandising of cinema, restaurant and cafeteria.
“The approach to the project – explain the authors – is inspired by the possibility to imagine as a site for the construction of the city of cinema area located opposite the sea, maintaining the momentum towards However, a relationship with an urban fabric. A lot hypothetical near the sea appears as the result of the juxtaposition of two very recognizable geometric shapes: a trapezoid and a rectangle.
The two geometric shapes are like two rocks, in which “life is symbolized by a filament to paraphrase the concept of life itself finds its raison d’etre in a spiral ramp that twists on itself manages the vertical and horizontal links to ‘inside the city and became the inspiration and organizer. ”
The spiral ramp evokes the film screening: as it arranges the sequence of frames, the ramp is organizing the hierarchy of all the features and attractions of the city of cinema.
Routes originated by the internal spiral ramp is enclosed in a glass case that serves the dual purpose of achieving a united front to the elongated shell that contains the smallest cinema halls, but especially to create a special place that welcomes all visitors that within this aquarium are to be spectators and players at the same time.
Rossellini, the Foundation now plans to open a discussion table with all the institutional actors potentially interested in the implementation of the new cinema complex. “As an entrepreneur – says Carducci – I recovered Palalottomatica Auditorium of Conciliation, but this project must include the public, not private.”
