Since last winter dry concrete, the Natural Science Center has attracted much attention worldwide. The Danish building, located in Bjerringbro, far from the capital Copenhagen has recently been nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Award. “We are very pleased to be nominated. Means a lot to us, “said Morten Rask partner in Nord Gregersen Architects in Copenhagen. The Natural Science Center is an unusual building, the spaces are open and have different views on several floors. The cylinder-shaped building with terraces, and cuts openings to explore.

The idea behind the Natural Science Center is to make young people interested in natural sciences, to develop a career within that field. “The idea behind this is to explore and ask questions, so we wanted to design a building to force to do just that,” said Nord Architects partner Johannes Pedersen Copenhagen.

The building is designed with a tough interior to encourage experiments. If a scientist is the need to make a hole in the concrete floor to carry out an experiment, it is absolutely possible. The architects are in agreement with him, as the Center of Natural Sciences, is primarily a building designed to be used.

“We made a clear distinction between inside and outside. The interior is rough concrete surfaces designed to be used, while the exterior has a smooth surface profiles of glass. In this way, the building is both elegant Bjerringbro icon and a place where young people can get their hands dirty doing all sorts of experiments, “says Rask Morten Gregersen.
