Municipal Nursery School and Dining in Mondragons - Elisa Valero Architecture


This intervention is in the Ribera del Beiro, north of the city of Granada. The presence of a white wall demarcating the former military property Mondragons and topped with watch towers set a distinctive image of the place. In turn, a high row of poplars mark the slightly curved path of the river, which runs a few feet below the road. Now, that huge block with your old flags has become an administrative complex city and its east facade has the Nursery and dining as complementary services.

The project’s objective has been to solve the program as simple and complete as possible, taking into account the peculiarities of the site, topography, orientation, and the specificity of its use. The nursery is 3 modules, for children birth to three years, and conforms to current regulations affecting such facilities, especially in the areas and features of each of the required fields. Also considered the recommendations of a team of educators to provide forums to facilitate learning and psychomotor development.

The dining room is set through a functioning and independent access, but following the same unitary structure of the building. A band of facilities and a larger bay to the dining room, linked to the gardens to allow it to install it for a few months per year service outdoor seating.
