Modern Apartment Building by Duran & Associates Architects HERMIDA

This building is located in the city of Cuenca so the sunlight is almost perpendicular, with variations of 23 degrees at the equinoxes June and December. Contains an apartment per floor, with the exception of the third floor where space is divided between a small apartment and an office.It is intended that the departments have sunlight in the morning and afternoon, so the east and west facades are very transparent, while those facing the north and south are closed preventing the visual to the neighbors. The Department of the ground floor is illuminated through a backyard.

The construction system used is fast and efficient, we propose three bearing walls with partitions 6m each built with bricks 20x40x8 beds which are specially manufactured for this project. The slabs are constructed with 6mm girders placed every 60 cm length. This system allows us to disregard the columns and having two free bays for distributing space. The facade facing west has a series of sliding shutters made of a metal frame and wooden slats to prevent the laundries and visual protection from the afternoon sun annoying.

The interior spaces are related to each other creating a sense of infinite space, this enables a new way of understanding and inhabiting domestic space. The challenge is to achieve the highest standards of quality both constructive and space but within the limits of local market costs, so they are competitive and within reach of a large segment of the population.
