Grimshaw Architects won first prize in the competition for the mobile art pavilion “Mobilizing things” to be held in preparation for the 2016 Olympics.
Mobilizing things, to be launched in the summer of 2012, is a temporary structure of 500 square meters, which will host cultural activities, outdoor cinema and exhibitions related to major events in Brazil, including the music festival Rock in Rio, the 2014 World Cup and Olympics.
The pavilion will cover 10 cities ephemeral increasingly being staged in a public space with the help of the local community as a way to involve them from the beginning the project.
Grimshaw, winning designer – in collaboration with the Arup office in Rio de Janeiro – was inspired by Brazilian art, culture and the modern movement in Brazil – and is further guided by the logistical difficulties of mobility.
The project will adapt to the environment, economic and social development of each site. A kit of parts and prefabricated wooden frames allow the project team to organize the layout of the structure in several ways.
Colorful floating balloons, plastic sheeting on the roof of remarkable presence and adjustable natural ventilation system are part of the main features of this future Hall.
