With a celebration held Saturday December 19 was marked in Seville partial completion of the project Metropol Parasol, a redesign of the Plaza de la Encarnacion in Sevilla, J. H. MAYER architects. The party started with the opening of the market square, With much of the Hoods installed. Full completion is scheduled for March / April 2011. Metropol Parasol becomes the Sevilla’s new icon: a place for identifying and articulating the role of this city as one of the most interesting cultural destinations in Spain.

The design explores the potential of the Plaza de la Encarnación to be a new and contemporary urban center. His role as the only space in the dense urban fabric of the medieval city allows wide variety of activities, such as memory, recreation and commerce. A highly developed infrastructure help activate the square, Making it an attractive destination for tourists and locals.

The scheme of “Metropol Parasol”, with its large structures, provides an archaeological site, a farmers market, an elevated plaza, many bars and restaurants underneath and inside of the visors, as well as a panoramic terrace on the surface of these. Made with an innovative wood construction with a polyurethane coating, Parasols grow from one excavation site to a reference of the contemporary city.

The columns are transformed into access points for the museum, the plaza and terrace, defining a unique relationship between the historical and contemporary. The mix of uses proposed starting a dynamic development of culture and commerce in the heart of Seville.
