Memorial 9 – Virgen del Parque / Gonzalo Mardones Viviani

The place was opened as a dialogue from the love of Mary at the foot of the Cross. The Cerro Manquehue is the background that contrasts with the sky. The evocation of nature reaches the relief of a sacred place.

The overlap of the inner circle in front of the geometry of the ramp that descends, makes clear the connection between spirit and human reincarnation. Between the sacred – divine and reason.

The work assumes primary forms which are easily recognizable. Should be left to attract curiosity and get inside the chapel “Madonna of the Park.”

The work is constructed from the height, underground and opening to the sky through a concrete cone 9 meters in diameter. 9 modules ninth lanterns symbolize the 9 girls who left early. Is the presence of divine light, light that vertical gravitate allows concrete forms, its contours, its plains, posándolos in the park so as to make this the dimension of heaven. In other words, the internalization of the sky and its light in the center of gravity of the earth.

Above is the sky. The folds of concrete is shown as a human gesture with which the architecture hosts a gathering place, a place of shelter, a meeting place within the park.

Accessed via a ramp 16 meters long with a 12% slope to reach the memorial chapel. In the geometric center was planted a magnolia, the tree is the only nature that has 9 leaves on each of its flowers.

Architectural concrete materiality is seen with addition of titanium dioxide. Formwork were used phenolic modulated. The floor is paving the way to a carpet horizontal and inclined in a slope of green grass. To protect a system used tempered glass railing embedded in concrete elements.

A ribbon of concrete paved levitating above the surface to create a bank run that against the presence of the Virgin welcomes mainsail 9 and 27 smaller candles which are inserted into the folds of concrete.
