In a key location within the project HafenCity Hamburg, Marco Polo Tower, 55 meters high, is the culmination of the route from downtown to the new attractions of the urban project: the terminal Cruise Ship and walking Strandkai. The proposed office Behnisch Architekten, Completed in 2010, tries to incorporate green design factors through its shape.
The 17 levels of the tower, which will rotate on its axis to varying degrees, allow their 58 departments have different views of the harbor and city. These are between 60 and 340 m2 and terraces extend the indoor perimeter outside and you get an image distinctive sculptural facades.
All of them have reduced the structural elements as much as possible for residents to organize indoor enclosures as needed. Entering each department, there is an uninterrupted view over the landscape from the lounge through glass panels.
The concept proposed by Behnisch Architekten residential tries to emphasize natural light and views. In addition, the Marco Polo Tower tries to put together a high quality housing with a holistic concept of building green. To this end, the facades are protected from direct sun through the terraces, which protrude on the lower floors without additional umbrellas and do so through their own form.
The building also heat collectors on the roof, which convert heat into a cooling system for the departments through a transformer. Also available is an innovative air shutter to maximize natural ventilation, while preventing outside noise pollution.
