Lujan House

Modest houses on small lots comprise the Quillen’s Point neighborhood, next to the Chesapeake Bay in Sea View, Delaware. An eclectic mixture of houses, gravel streets ending in the bay and wooded lots give a nostalgic, informal setting with this home. In order to integrate areas using the outdoors while keeping privacy from Burbage Lane and neighboring houses, the plan is organized around a centrally situated garden. With 16 feet high roofs, the eastern volume consists of the general public areas. The 2 story western volume is composed of sleeping rooms along with a small second floor living area. A 1 story glass link connects the volumes and aesthetically opens towards the central garden.

The home was created as two simple, flat-roofed volumes, different tall, intersecting and overlapping a 1 story circulation space which connects the volumes. The east volume is built with cement board, free airline volume with corrugated siding and also the one story hooking up space using the ground face concrete block. The outside material palette is quiet and subdued. A home is built with modest materials which include concrete flooring through the very beginning, oak flooring around the second floor and plastic laminate and oak millwork.

The home was created to attain an account balance between recognition from the attractive Chesapeake Bay landscape along with a more intimate, secluded garden atmosphere.
