A hill between Hauraki Gulf and the classic landscape of Waiheke Island provides a stunning and challenging context in minimalist home design. The approach was to work within the contour of the hill, as an attempt to minimize the impact on the landscape. The way the floor of the modern house is built between two courtyards, which crossed by a fold of the roof that stretches across its longitudinal axis. The courts granted the opportunity to protect the two prevailing winds. The materiality of the house occupies two conditions Waiheke architectural, masonry forms were inspired by the location of Stoney Batter. The use of cedar and plywood reflects the precariousness of the island.
