Joshua Tree Boulder House by Garett Carlson
Joshua Tree House Boulder proof that imagination is still alive. Every inch of this house, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms has a purpose, and each element is designed deliberately. This magical creation is located in an area of 10,000 m2, in Joshua Tree, California.
The house was designed by W. Garett Carlson, a landscape architect with over 30 years of experience. Having studied architecture in addition to his studies of landscape, fulfilled his ambition of years of designing a home. His concept for the house comes from Boulder “imagine what it would look if the house emerges from the ground.” Housing is one with the land in a way that is almost invisible when you go closer to it.
With Joshua Tree National Park in the background, the inspiration for the Boulder home is evident. “Joshua Tree has some of the most fascinating rock formations around the world,” says Carlson. Carefully constructed formations where the rocks seem to emerge from the desert floor to embrace and protect the west side of the house and provide welcome shade for the afternoon heat.
The house was built considering sustainable principles, using an interesting palette of metal, wood, concrete and glass to create a modern space where traditional boundaries are discarded. From 3 feet high, sliding doors are glazed from floor to ceiling to create an open space 12 feet wide that connects the living with the landscape. A fire on one side of the courtyard, and a pool on the opposite side, are made entirely of rock, to improve the living experience.
