International Ultzama Campus 2011


The International Campus Ultzama 2011Organized by Architecture and Society Foundation, Close to Pamplona the debate on contemporary architecture.
On Campus “Arrivals / Partidas meeting from 23 to 26 June in Pamplona and Zenotz thirty architects and other actors to discuss the current state of architecture and their immediate future.

The fourth edition of Campus Ultzama, organized by the Architecture Foundation and Society, is presented with the news on the three previous debates open to the public offering, that will expand the spectrum of contributions to enrich the discussions and conclusions. These open spaces for citizen participation will take place in the afternoon sessions, on 24 at the Palace of Constable, in Pamplona, ??and 25 in the Foundation Altzuza Oteiza. The 2011 Campus Ultzama meet in Zenotz to 24 architects from several generations throughout the world. As a distinctive feature of this edition of the Campus, it is important the effort to widen the range of backgrounds of participants which includes South America, Asia, Europe and the Arab World.



The campus, which will be held from 23 to 26 June between Pamplona and Zenotz Equestrian Centre (Ultzama Valley), renews the experience of those held in previous years with an intensive dynamic that favors coexistence and intellectual exchange thirty professionals committed to the architecture invited to participate.

Directed this year by José Manuel Pozo, architect and professor at the University of Navarra, Campus will, in his words, “compare and exchange ideas and views on the direction that today should be given to exercise and learning architecture , so that this can improve the service that society needs. ”

The title of Campus Ultzama 2011, “Arrival / Departure”, refers to the desirability of considering whether today can still be useful achievements and architectural forms characteristic or prototypical of the twentieth century, with its abstract and geometrically pure profiles, to be taken as a point of arrival or should go in search of new expressions, and in tune with the taste and fashion of the moment.

Presentations and discussions

The dynamics of the campus is structured on the basis of two areas of discussion: the first, which runs in the mornings and take place at the Equestrian Complex, is reserved for members of the campus, with brief presentations and joint discussions where the spotlight will fall on young architects, and the other, open to all persons wishing to participate in the interventions will be borne by the `teachers’ and will be held in the evening in Pamplona.

As part of the development of the Campus are planned parallel activities that enhance the character of coexistence of the event, giving it more content, such as visiting the Gothic cloister of the Cathedral of Pamplona (S. XIV), the architectural jewel of Europe its scope, with which it wishes to present to the participants in the campus the need for consideration of the history and tradition. For the same reason, was chosen as a forum for discussion of the day the Hall of Constable’s Palace, recently restored with great success, bringing together history and modernity austere, in a good exercise that relates architectural architectural practice distant centuries, which is also home of suggestions and ideas for discussion. The second visit scheduled on campus will Ultzama 2011 the Fundación Museo Jorge Oteiza, a true example of abstraction and a landmark work of contemporary Spanish architecture.
