The Norfolk Broads are an artificial landscape endowed with great beauty, where part of the landscape is made up from an old mill building vernacular. After many years of industrial operation, these lands have been gradually transformed into landscapes where conservation has become increasingly important.
The project for the Hunset Mill was founded on these principles, which, despite being a contemporary building strong roots in the context through their type and use of materials. In addition, the project considered the use of energy, water conservation and waste management looking for a total harmony and positive impact to the environment. The design considered the efficiency from the time of its construction and the building is shown conceptually strong, pure and simple, with great clarity in each of their spaces and consistency in the use of their materials.
Its dark color makes him a diffuse object in the distance, almost as a backdrop for the mill. However, the closer you can see a volume of clean lines and simple vernacular typology works and creates a heavy volume printing using wood, recalling that the existing building. Glasses, to lead to the facade and create a higher profile through its reflections of the environment to bring the building.
Inside reverse happens. Although wood is still present as the main material, the key space is spent doing something totally bright. The spaces are open and dynamically connecting and doubles heights and climbing stairs in the same space.
