The House on the Water located at the foot of the Yulong Mountain in Lijiang. It is an area of ??slopes and great views to the Linjiang’s city landscape, an ancient trading settlement known for its network of waterways and bridges. The mountain gave architects a spectacular backdrop for the house, which synthesized forms and traditional techniques to create a contemporary building that resonates with place, history and natural landscape.

The design developed base on a series of interlocking courtyards, introverted, contemplative and ongoing relationship with the water. These courtyards are physically separated from the “outside world” by elements such as ponds, rocks and different levels, but held together visually. The architectural language materials and the ability to use local tectonics, focusing on space and the atmosphere generate. Emphasis placed on the textures, not decorative details to bring out the nature of the new building and the contrast between the constructed and the environment.

We used materials such as wood and glass and pitched roofs covered with tiles. Walls were also incorporated blinds that let in light and delicate bamboo plants in the central courtyard. The interior design is at least as simple as possible, so that nature won value from within.

Only the steel structure was build by a professional team, the rest of the construction was done by local workers, not only to reduce the cost, but as a clear message of commitment to the region and the practice of architecture in a local context.
