This is a residential project that has a unique garden in the front of the house. The home, located in a residential area of Kodaira-shi, Tokyo, was designed for a family with four members. The site is so located that is directly connected to the street and public environment. Because of these conditions, the focus of the project was to achieve a home that is open to the outside and yet maintain privacy in their interiors.
The house has its front yard, as an intermediate space, location average of the two realities, first connect the exterior with the interior, and the other is the area that separates the personal atmosphere of the house with the street. To create this space as a semi-private area, a tensile structure was used as a divisive and so separating the two spaces. This kind of tent covers the garden, filling the role of roof, wall and fence.
The structure creates an outdoor environment that is integrated as part of the interior of the house. Moreover, the sliding doors found in the living area can be completely open to the front yard to enter the green space comfortable private rooms.
