The house is located in a new residential area development in the city of Almelo, the Netherlands. Under this plan, were given nine lots available for sale and free design, are very well located land in total area, near a canal and with views over the forest. The houses in these areas should be innovative and of high architectural quality.
The parcel purchased by the customer is located in a green patch and open, and during his first visit to the architects said they intend to build their home in exposed concrete.
“This led us to design a concrete housing: strong spatial and aesthetic reduction in the final details.” Pipes, pipes and electrical wiring were strategically hidden enhancing the cleaning.
The house is tailored to customer needs and the specificity of place, organizing the program based on the views and inputs of natural light. This resulted in a three-story house and four specific spatial levels (with a ground floor with two levels).
Much care was taken to the stairs and outdoors. The openings for the entry of light were placed strategically throughout the house, optimizing the experience of spaces, circulation, balconies and open spaces were designed to promote all points of view.
Meijer House tries to be a “machine for living” modest and flexible, able to enrich the everyday experiences of its inhabitants to enhance its relationship with the landscape outside and the light material.
