The concept is that of a strong cultural presence, in terms of dynamic volumes carved to design a public dialogue, smooth and transparent, with the cultural, commercial and residential area, indicating the various internal forces inherent in the theater and office buildings.
This composition creates a dynamic and an icon of urban aggregation mirror of joy and drama emblematic of Dublin itself. The Grand Canal Theater from 2000 seats is a landmark for the urban context, particularly on the Grand Canal Square, the new town square on the waterfront of the Grand Canal Harbor. The architectural concept is based on the theater stage, the theater itself, the square and multi-level lobby of the theater above the square. The theater became the main front of a large public plaza that houses a five star hotel and residences on one side and an office building on the other.
The plaza serves as a great lobby outside the theater, itself a stage for civic meetings which have as their visual background Theater with viewing platforms overlooking the port of Dublin. The new building is included in the commercial development comprising 45,500 sqm of office buildings and retail spaces. Designing multi-glazed atria, commercial buildings are integrated with the adjacent residential areas, cultural and public.
Three prominent inputs make buildings accessible from Grand Canal Square, Misery Hill and Cardiff Lane. Although office buildings are designed with the same architectural language, each responds to its site so unique. Two Grand Canal Square (South Block), which is adjacent to the new theater opens to the square, while Four & Five Grand Canal Square (North Block), in conjunction with the Theater, is an entrance effect to Dublin Harbor. The area of urban development of the Grand Canal Square improves new urban structure of the Grand Canal Harbor, a cultural reference point, exciting “magnet” for Dublin, a destination for business, shopping and entertainment.
