False Bay Writer’s Cabin by Olson Kundig Architects

The cabin was created like a glass house encircled by three wooden slat decks that may be elevated with a hydraulic system of wires, rope, pivoting sheaves and lead blocks, that can serve as wooden shutters. When open, the shutter decks are outside areas when closed they secure the cabin. An inverted roof with deep overhangs forces water to drain towards the rear from the cabin.

Finishes are restrained, punctuated only with a blackened steel inlay that bisects the ground in the fire place towards the slot window powering the cabin.
