Fairfax Walk is a private residence in Austin, Texas, and is a clear example of several important design ideas: A strong connection between inside/outside spaces is created, by treating the main public space as a porch between the private front garden and a second garden nestled under a giant live-oak tree in the back of the property.
The play of natural light is celebrated through carefully composed windows and apertures. Electric light in the landscape extends the perceived interior spaces into the gardens at night. Natural materials soften the contemporary forms; high-quality finishes and thoughtful details complete the design effort.
