Epiphany School by Miller Hull Partnership

Epiphany School is a newly opened expansion of the school for children located in the Madrona neighborhood in Seattle. The project includes a new building with several rooms and public space for art. Due to the need to make room for the new building, four houses had to be removed from their original site, two were subsequently resettled in other parts of the city.

In order not to contrast with the neighborhood, the project’s architectural character and scale mimic the environment of this intent is evident in the individual building roofs. With the intention of achieving LEED Gold certification, the school includes photovoltaic panels, a green roof, using natural ventilation, green furniture and a sustainable management plan of the land in general.

In addition to these measures, is provided within the school curriculum materials that make the same work a teaching tool for sustainability and energy conservation. A top wall located inside the building is responsible for informing about the operation thereof by text and graphics, students can verify the cost of water, gas, electricity and solar energy.
