Remarkable views in the heart of the city and a small footprint buildable limited by restrictive easements define a thin house , three stories , with the main living areas and master bedroom on the top floor – essentially a one bedroom loft with a view of 270 °. A screen of Ipe 16 wraps the body of the house and gently rests on a foundation of long lines of black Leuders limestone .
The visitor enters through a revolving glass door , where natural stone gives way to its counterpart coated, and is immediately followed by a solid ebonized oak staircase floating above the steel beams , and hanging in a vertical space of three storeys. Further, a wall of etched glass captures the shadows of a stand of giant bamboo , and a strip of clear glass manages the look out to a private garden .
Ipe cutting the front of two windows in a steel box , with its reflection is projected against the watermark of the screen. At night , this screen is transformed into a torch to reveal a collection of spaces behind. The display also has the potential to transform the building when two ‘ sections dramatically unfold and reveal the formal dining room.
At the top level , efforts are made to embrace the vision extensively with absolute ceiling plane that provides a surface to reflect light, while the screen 18 ” extension passes over the surrounding ground level gently to the visitor.
