The house was created as a joint effort between the developers of prefabricated houses Blue Sky Homes LLC and the office of Palm Springs architecture, Architecture o2 Lance O’Donnell. This house of 92 m2 is located in the Mojave Desert at 4000 feet above sea level. The program required a sustainable residence of modest scale to serve as a prototype for prefabricated homes online. Special attention was placed on the location and orientation of housing. Inspired by the “Domino” of Le Corbusier, the house contains a pure structure of columns and planes. Adaptability is generated through non-structural walls and openings that can be placed within the structure to meet the fierentes conditions.
The house is positioned on the ground on columns and steel beams. The envelope is composed of a grid of precast panels and standardized components. The bathroom module, which contains all mechanical, electrical and health, is built away from the field and absolutely finished. Interior spaces are defined by the location of cabinets, removing the interior walls. Solar technologies deliver electricity, hot water and heating.
The components of the house, packed all so flat minimzan transport volume and promote sustainability through efficient material / structural, and they may be assembled and relocated. The inherent nature of precast design ensures low energy costs and minimize waste in the ground. The prototype was completed in a period of 8 weeks.
