Author: This guide has been created and provided by Poles Direct, suppliers of the UK’s largest range of curtain poles.
Measuring up for new curtain poles will now be an easy task thanks to this very simple guide to measuring curtain poles.
All you need to do before you start is make sure you have a tape measure, a metal one would be best, something to write with and something to write your measurements down on.
Other things to note before you start: Firstly, take all measurements down to the nearest centimeter. However, don’t worry if you can only measure in inches because we have a handy conversion table at the bottom of this guide to convert to centimeters. Secondly, if you already have a curtain pole in place you won’t need to bother measuring up again, just take the existing curtain rail and measure the length of this to give the correct length for your new curtain poles.
Step 1: The Recess Width
The recess width is the width inside the window frame and can be seen on the image as a central line, entitled recess width. Make sure to measure this distance to the nearest centimetre.
Step 2: Outside the Recess Width
Obviously the curtains don’t just want to sit straight down in front of the window, so you have to take add a minimum of 15cm for each side of the curtain pole. As seen on the Image as the letter B.
Step 3: Add them all Up
Now all you have to do is add all the numbers together. Take the recess width measurement and the measurements of either side of the recess.
POLE LENGTH = RECESS WIDTH + B + B
Step 4: Buy your curtain poles
Once you have your final measurement just get shopping at Poles Direct for unbeatable prices, on quality brand name curtain poles.
Notes:
- All curtain pole measurements are that of the pole only, on which the curtain rings can travel.
- The lengths of the finials are over and above the pole length quoted.
- Longer poles will most likely be in two pieces, joined by a centre bracket.
