Since the early 30′s, the Training School “Bafile” has played a central role in the modernization of the suburbs of Caorle. In addition to providing essential services, the school complex has decisively shaped the surrounding landscape, dictating and directing the pace of urban sprawl for decades. The current restoration project is part of a comprehensive plan to redesign the historic downtown of the city. The plan, which is promoted by the Board of Caorle, consists of three separate areas of the intervention architecture: (a) a monumental religious complex and focused on the Duomo, (b) the complex management adminitración and around the old town hall and (c) the area “Bafile”, which is now devoted to a variety of socio-cultural activities.
The “Bafile” project primarily defined by their use of empty spaces and, above all, the creation of a new pedestrian square – or “piazza” – connected to the historic city center. The volumes and are managed to be a complement to the original style architectural complex “Bafile.” The project highlights the role of the aisle cylindrical architecture of the old school, becoming one of the terms of the main pedestrian route from the city and serves to delimit the southern borders of the new piazza.
On the opposite side of the square is marked by the newly built theater and library, they are now redesigned organic parts of the city center. Compact structure and brick facade of the theater groups underline their valuable role and the unique importance in the economy of the project.The facade of the library overlooking the square, comprises a frame that contains the glass wall whose transparency makes an enclosure, the opening of the relationship between interior and exterior of the building.
