A new hotel was built last year in the heart of Matarraña in Teruel, Spain. This sector is on the outskirts of the city, so the usual stops in the area to buy ham or collect wild fruits may be elongated and not just be a passing. The hotel designed by the office Camprubí i Santacana, is an innovative project which rehabilitates an old sixteenth-century chapel, which contains the services and common areas, and build ten new rooms in the form of individual cottages.
The individual cubes are lined with wood and are located 100 meters from the heart of the hotel, on a hillside covered with natural rosemary and thyme. They called Kubes and has 36 square meters black ceramic tiles, a tub built in work and a fireplace. Each cube has a large window facing west and a terrace, framing a view of the pine-covered hillside, making a total privacy. All spaces in the core are fexible and interconnected to create a unit. Thus, the rest area can be used as a lounge or meeting space and reception becomes a bar at night.
The kitchen is also a meeting at the hotel. It is open at all times and there is always food and drinks available. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in a dining room remodeled, made of stone, wood, steel and glass, the dishes are designed based on seasonal products Matarraña. The interior design is characterized as essential and comfortable. Most of the furniture was built on site as part of the architecture. Warm and noble materials such as pine and wenge wood combined with metal and dominate in the bedroom and in the core.
The project ends with an outdoor pool overlooking the landscape. This degree of isolation would be impossible in a normal hotel, which is why the starting point of the hotel was nice and create spaces that deliver peace of mind.
