The international firm Mobile Workshop Architects recently completed the command and communication center in Huixquilucan Mexico to the state government of Mexico. “The idea behind the project came from the beginning that it was necessary to create a building that did not require much maintenance and could be very efficient with the time of construction and the limited funds available.
The main challenge was to design and construct this project within 3 months. This led us to use a strategy mainly of prefabricated elements. Hence we decided to make most of the interiors in a factory, conceptualized as boxes / objects positioned in a universal space by creating a labyrinth effect. This in turn allowed us to meet the deadline and the possibility of using materials resistant to cost-effectively maintaining a sophisticated look.
The program consists of a monitoring and research center containing a surveillance video wall, an auditorium for training, an emergency room and offices with technology ranging from plate readers to identify stolen cars to cameras a range of 1 km away. All equipment was provided by Counter Intelligence Mexico, a leader in surveillance equipment. The building should reflect a sense of strength and technology to be consistent with the program and the new image the government wants to implement and so we decided to expose the steel structure and use as the main material.
The interiors of these objects / cases against his skin were covered in wood to achieve a softer feel and quality for users of this building. The vertical circulation was not conceived as a regular ladder but rather as a series of lines that unfold and allow one to climb through them. These add an element of surrealism and tension in space. “
