Bodegas Logowines – PMC Architects
Wineries Logowines are located in a strip of land of 3.5 hectares, part of Herdade da Pimenta in the city of Evora, southern Portugal. With a rectangular shape of 110 m by 27 m, consists of a volume coated with cork panels, stopped by three “boxes” containing white building’s public areas.
The winery has a total building of 3,780 m2 on two floors, one partially buried in order to take advantage of better weather conditions for the production, processing, storage and aging of wines.
The winery is assumed as an element that establishes a formal link between local traditions and current production dynamics. The rhythm generated in the facades, with a strong definition of horizontal lines through different thicknesses of cork panels (where they fuse openings for natural lighting of the interior), is reinforced by the natural behavior of the material chosen, making a set of textures, shades and shadows that contribute to the idea of ??an evolutionary construct, mutating over time, in a clear allusion to the maturation of wine during the production period.
Inside, a spacious, 9.5 m high, was designed with the goal of developing an innovative production method with vats of wine that overlap, which stimulates the system by gravity, avoiding the continuous pumping of wine during different stages of winemaking.
Downstairs, the building is equipped with a barrel vault of 400 barrels and a half, a bottling line and warehouse of 700 m2. The technical areas have been carefully integrated into the building, a central laboratory for analysis and testing, a cafeteria and changing rooms with showers for employees.
These areas have a strong relationship with the outside through the windows that open onto the surrounding vineyards and through a courtyard, designed to be used daily by employees or visitors in a warm and intimate.
