The new Jacinto Castañeda arises from the complete replacement of the old school in an adjacent plot, keeping only the block of the gym. The plot being the extension is located in the Camí de la Bola, in the town of Xativa.
This is an area of ??urban expansion in the southwest corner characterized by medium density building (detached three-storey row). The plot has a rectangular shape, bounded on the south by the geographer Strabo Street, north along the Camí de la Bola, sharing plot adjoining the current center to the east and another parcel of municipal ownership.
The surface of the plot showed a sharp drop to be seated in the mountainside, with a difference of 12.50 m between the upper and lower street. For the above reasons it was proposed a replacement of the existing building with a two-step: In the first phase was to build a new factory building with virtually all of the program (9I + 18P without gym, dining room and caretaker’s house ) in the adjacent plot, without interfering in the functioning of the existing building.
Once the new building and put into operation, would take place the second phase consisting of the demolition of the existing retaining those buildings that can be used such as the gym and home goalkeeper and proceed to build the dining room and complete the development of plot integrating the space freed by the demolition unit to get a result. Finally I wish the center and ran the dining room during Phase 1 to meet the needs of students.
The answer to the characteristics of the site has been instrumental in addressing both the draft and the relationship building with the plot of the existing center and the buildings that remain. The building is available in three levels that are adapted to the slope of the land to allow a good relationship with the outer surfaces facilitating accessibility and avoiding excessive earthworks.
The orientation of the volumes available to capture the maximum illumination of the spaces and avoid casting shadows between the built volumes. In this way the building is located on the western edge of the plot and goes staggering to get capture the light of the south and east and at the same time manage to maintain the distance with the existing building.
Access to the center is caused by the camí of the Ball as it is the street that has a better communication with the rest of the city. Of the three levels mentioned above, the level of access is reserved for kindergarten spaces and to configure access to the rest of the building, along with some common areas such as the Multi Purpose Room, reception and administration.
