The house is called the Great (Bamboo) Wall and creation of Japanese architect Kengo Kuma . The project was implemented in 2000-2002 as part of a larger project to build a holiday village of 12 houses and a club near Beijing. For this purpose, attracted some of the most famous architects such as Asian-Yung Ho Chang, Shigeru Ban, Gary Chang. The ground on which is located bamboo house size is 1,931.57 m², a residential area is 528.25m ². Consists of: entrance hall, kitchen, closet, living room, bathroom, guest room, laundry room, staff room.
Kuma and his colleagues wanted to distinguish them from contemporary architecture in China and to turn to tradition. Is mainly used bamboo, which is an ecological material, unlike the concrete and metals that make up modern buildings. They had concerns about how it will be adopted such house, built mainly of bamboo, but it turned out that all like it. Another characteristic is the way nature enters the building and merged with it. But the whole project was inspired by the Great Wall of China , hence the name.
Their main purpose was to draw on knowledge of the nature of the Great Wall. They were attracted by the fact that it has never been isolated object. How goes almost seemed infinitely undulating ground without being isolated from the environment is characteristic that has attracted them. This fact they actually revealed how modern form of architecture seeks to isolate objects from the middle. So come to the decision to apply these qualities to the Great Wall of China to the building. So the name is not on house , a wall.
As for bamboo material, have used it most because of its great importance in Chinese and Japanese cultures. Depending on the respective density and diameter, it provides various options for dividing the area. To take full advantage of these characteristics, they decided to descend a wall of bamboo, bamboo layer over sloping terrain, just as the Great Wall. It is separated in the past two cultures, but unlike her they like their bamboo wall not only separates but also unites life and culture.
