Aquamundo – Center Parcs Moselle by ARTUR Architectes Mandataire
In May 2010, the fourth Resort Center Parcs Built in Harcholins forests near Sarrebourg in France. This project is characterized by an architecture dominated by wood, both as structural elements for roofs and facades. Aquamundo is 5.000 m2 and contain a large aquatic center in the middle of a dense tropical vegetation. The project’s main challenge is to insert within the landscape superstructures that are necessary for the growth of trees inside. The general plan as clover, are covered through a series of laminated wood ribs with stainless steel joints. This is coated with a transparent membrane Texlon.
Thus, three cross vaults 35 meters and vary in height from 13 to 16 meters. These superstructures resting on a solid base from 5 to 7 feet high that contains the swimming pools. On this basis, forming a green wall to the outside, it includes the machinery for building energy savings.
The project also considered a greenhouse that derives from the history of the land. Covered by a very light wooden structure resting on a lattice pole randomly inclined to imitate the rhythm of larch trunks in the middle of a storm. This laminated structure can reach a height of 12 m.
The Resort is a pilot project for the Society and WWF-France applies THPE certification standard for buildings of very high energy efficiency. Besides obtained the certification standard Tertiaire Bâtiments NF démarches HQE(Standard of environmental quality in buildings of industrial services), among others.
All claims of effectiveness in terms of materials, energy and isolation have been achieved in this building. The water is reused, and heating and hot water are supplied by fuel wood obtained based on the same site. The CO2 savings achieved thus 2.900 tons per year. Natural ventilation is optimal and saves 250 MWh of electricity per year.
